I first spotted two pups on June 8th. They came out of the woods and then came down around the rock wall right outside my window for me to see! How cute!! I spotted one way back in the woods climbing a tree!

Fox Update-April 6, 2010

Last saw my three legged fox on March 27th. At least he made it through the winter and looks real healthy and runs like the wind! Haven't gotten any photos of him though.
This is the first fox I've seen before dark this year. He's grinning it seems and waiting for some nuts.

The Three-Legged Fox Update-No Pics Though

Just to let you all know that the crippled fox is still alive and doing well. The last I saw him was January 28, 2010. Now the snow has gotten quite deep and it's been so cold that they all are staying close to their dens. But on the 31st of Dec. the crippled one was right outside my living room window where I could get a real good look at him. I even shined a flashlight on his leg to see how it looked. He has chewed all the bones down and has healed up real nicely and looks big and healthy. He runs real fast on those three legs also!! If he sees any movement from my window he's off in a flash. I won't be getting any pictures unless I just happen to catch him out back some night as I'm flashing my camera at anything out there...
Nature takes care of the critters pretty well. I am always so happy to see him doing so well.

Update On Crippled Fox-November 24, 2009

I spotted him this evening! I hadn't seen him in three days so was very worried. I can't really tell but I think he might have chewed those bones down. I sure hope so! Then he might have a chance of surviving. This is a slide show I made of his photos. I can't take video any more because they only come after dark now. I am lucky when I do happen to catch him in a shot when I randomly take flash pictures from my window at night. I never know what I will see till I get them on the computer. Was very happy to see him in them tonight!

Update-12-6-09
My crippled fox showed up!! He was right outside my living room window tonight. I had to be very careful not to spook him. I was trying to see his leg. It was dark out there but a little light was coming from the apartment next door. It looks like he doesn't have those bones protruding any more and he looks real healthy. I am so happy!!

The Three Legged Gray Fox Update

My wounded fox is still coming around each day to get some food. I got a few bad photos on the 14th and one today. He ran back into the woods today because of the noisy people upstairs. I never saw him again. That pissed me off when those jerks upstairs wouldn't get away from the window. I hope the fox came back after dark. The others do but not sure about him. I worry so much about that bone protruding out of his leg and that he might get gangrene in it. But I will watch him as long as he keeps coming and if I see him slowing down I will tell the Rehabbers. But I don't really think they want to be bothered. I just have that feeling. Hopefully I'm wrong.

A Gray Fox Pup Tradgedy-Nov. 8, 2009

This was a sad day when I saw this fox limp out of the woods. His foot was dangling and two bones were protruding. It looked like he had been shot or caught in a trap.
This is one of the young pups. He's only 8 months old. He always hangs with his two other siblings and the mother. Two days later he was sitting out there on the grass and I noticed that he had chewed the dangling foot off. I am so worried about those bones and that he won't heal properly or get Gangrene in it. I am in contact with the Wildlife Rehabilitation people and the DEC. They say there isn't much they can do at this time because he is on the move and getting around good. I'm supposed to watch him and if he shows signs of illness or slowing down then that is when they will try to trap him and get him to a Vet. I think by that time he will be too far gone to save. Winter is going to be setting in soon and I fear he won't be able to survive. He needs to have those bones sawed down and skin drawn around that stub to heal the right way. Maybe he will chew those bones down. I sure hope so. I will worry every day now till I see he is doing okay or they can trap him. If they do trap him and get him to a Vet, they will keep him till he's healed and then bring him back here to be with his family. Nature is so cruel and so are the damn hunters and trappers that leave these animals to suffer.

What Happened Since Last Post In May?

Well. I had a summer full of enjoying all the critters outside. Especially watching the Gray Fox kits as they grew. They were very entertaining and still are. I don't see them all but a few are still coming around. There were five young ones from two sets of parents. What little cuties!! These are some of the pages from Scrapblog that I made. But most of you have seen all the pics through the summer on my Photography blog.

The Baby Toad

I brought this little toad in that day just to study him and take photos. I enjoyed that half hour! I put him in a big bowl and he climbed to the top. Then he got on the windowsill and looked outside. I'm sure he wanted to get back out there fast! He stood on his two hind legs, as you can see here. What a cute little creature! I had never seen one since I was ten years old, till I moved here. He was put back outside after the photo shoot and went on his way.
